On Monday evening I attended a Nordic startup event that was been hosted in Lemonsqueeze’s incubator space, where CIID is currently based in New York. The event was initiated to provide a platform for leading Nordic startup organizations to meet Brooklyn based entrepreneurs.
The program kicked off with Peter Vesterbacka from Rovio, a fireside chat covering the Nordic and US Fintech scene with Erik Engellau-Nilsson, VP of Klarna and Jalak Jobanputra, Founding Partner of FuturePerfect Ventures. Following the intro talk, 10 up-and-coming startups from the Nordic tech scene pitched their products, successes and learnings so far. Finally the Brooklyn based startup, TAYLR, spoke about how to combine Nordic design with Brooklyn attitude.
Overall is was a great end to CIID’s first ‘official’ studio day in New York City. It was also incredibly inspiring to see how the Scandinavian startup scene is both growing and gaining traction internationally.
It was also a great reminder for me that while Scandinavia is still small, it has has some huge successes in the past 10 years; Skype, Spotify, Supercell and Zendesk being just a few…
